Impending Doom – Q&A

ImpendingDoom

Recently, our friend Tyler Cordingly had a chance to sit down with David Settig, the bassist from Impending Doom and talk a little bit about their latest album as well as some aspects of touring. These guys are nothing short of awesome. Check it out!

Where did you get the album title “There Will Be Violence” from?

Basically, it all just is a reference to not putting faith in humanity. The world cannot save you. God can save you and if you don’t put all of your faith in God then there will be violence. The whole album is all about not putting faith in man made and humanistic things.

What did you do differently in this album than your last one, “The Serpant’s Servant”?

We tried to go with more structure and write songs that were more together. The first record was just heavy parts mashed together. We are growing as musicians. We play with bands like Oceano and Whitechapel, but we do not get our influences from them. We get our influences from bands like Slipknot, Deftones, Lamb of god and other bands. We tried to stray away from so much deathcore elements and so many breakdowns but didn’t want to alienate our entire fan base.

Any negatives from touring so far?

I would say just the economy is affecting the shows. With it going up and down so much, in order for a show to be successful the line up has to be stacked. When someone goes to pay 20 dollars for a show they want it to be a huge line up, which is why our last tour with Oceano, Whitechapel, and I declare war was such a huge success, it was a stacked metal show. Kids only want to come out to see their favorite bands.

Positives from touring?

Since we became a four piece we are becoming closer as a band. God put the four of us together for a reason. We were at each other’s throats before, but now touring is a blast and we are all growing closer together and getting closer to God.

What’s next for Impending Doom?

We are headed home to do some writing, and then we are headed out on the road as direct support for Chimaira. We will be touring through the end of the year[2010] and will head to Europe soon. We will be going on a headlining tour starting in February and after that we have some surprises for the summer.
